Class Levels

Parent/Child: (Ages 6 months - 2 years; ratio 1:5)

This is a water orientation class for parents and their children. Parents will learn how to hold their children in a way that is safe and will encourage proper movement through the water. Instructors will show the parents how to play with balance and buoyancy as they guide them to learn basic aquatic skills. The two year olds will begin to use instructional flotation devices to work on moving more independently through the water under their parent’s guidance.

Beginner 1: (Ages 3 and up; ratio 1:4)

This level is for students who have little to no experience in the water. Increasing comfort level will be the main focus of this class.

Beginner 2: (Ages 3 and up; ratio 1:4)

This level is for beginner swimmers who are comfortable in the water and will put their face and/or head under water. Beginner 2 students can float on their own but do not know how to propel themselves through the water yet. The main focus of this level is for the students to start to move through the water on their front and back.

Beginner 3: (Ages 3 and up; ratio 1:4)

This level is for students who are starting to figure out how to propel themselves in the water. They can swim a few feet before they are in need of assistance. The main focus of this level is for students to be able to swim 10 to 15 feet on their front and back via doggie paddle and elementary backstroke arms.

Intermediate 1: (Ages 5 and up; ratio 1:5)

This level is for students who can swim 10 to 15 feet with their face in and are ready to swim more formal strokes. Students will switch from doggie paddle to freestyle arms and from elementary backstroke arms to backstroke. Breaststroke and butterfly kicks may be introduced at this level depending on the class goals.

Intermediate 2: (Ages 6 and up; ratio 1:5)

This level is for swimmers who can swim freestyle and backstroke for 15 yards. Students will work on building their endurance as they work to swim 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke while maintaining their stroke technique. Rotary breathing (side breathing) will be introduced on freestyle. Students will be begin to work on breaststroke and butterfly as a full stroke, not just kick.

Intermediate 3: (Ages 7 and up; ratio 1:5)

This level is for swimmers who can swim freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke kick for 25 yards and maintain their stroke. Students will work on refining all four strokes and work to increase their endurance so they can swim 50 yards. Flip turns, drills and other more advanced skills may be introduced in this class.

Advanced: (Ages 8 and up; ratio 1:5)

This level is for swimmers who can swim freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke for 50 yards. Swimmers will work to improve all four of the competitive strokes. Competitive starts, workout sets and other swim team prep skills may be taught depending on the goals of the students.
